An amusing little book
The author Penny Lee, mother of Ben is signing her book at
The
Exchange in Rochechouart on Friday 10th April from 10 to 12 am and 2.15 to 4 pm.
Suffering from Leukaemia Ben died in 2003 from a complication after bone marrow transplant. He was 28 years old. I have written a cookery book in three languages, English, French and Welsh and all the funds raised go to Leukaemia Research. It was not viable to include photographs of the recipes. However, my good friend Janet Slade produced the cartoons which I am sure you will agree add a humorous side to the book.
This is Penny’s first book - She says:” After a tragedy such as this and as retired people in a foreign country the process has helped our integration making this a positive way forward. Of course all my efforts are nothing compared to the courage of Ben.”
Penny has gathered favourite recipes from friends and family and translated them into three languages: French, English and Welsh. The book reflects the fun side of Ben's nature through the humorous cartoons drawn by Janet Slade to accompany the recipes and his love of food through the diverse range of recipes included.
Many local artisans and shop owners have been extremely generous in donating examples of their work to be sold with all proceeds going to the fund (jewellery, mirrors, wooden objets d'art,soft toys, handcrafted bathtime goodies etc).
Tea and coffee and cakes (made from recipes in the book, of course) will be available for everyone to sample - free of charge, but a donation would be gratefully accepted.
100's of second hand books will be for sale starting from 20cents.
